Hi everybody,

I have a big problem with my landlord. Last week he changed the locks and he has not given me the new keys to date. Moreover, I suspect he has entered my apartment in my absence. Who do I complain to?

Hi Melinda,
The Residential Tenancy Act of 2006 forbids a landlord from locking you out of your rental property. If he does this without 'just cause', he could be fined up to $25,000. If your landlord is a business the fine could be as much as $100,000. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule particularly if you have been evicted by the Sheriff.
